When Si started talking about a trip to the USA, I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I grew up there! It was so boring! I only go back to see family not to waste vacation time. But when we started researching and plotting it out, it became something that we were both immensely looking forward to.
Beginning in Cali, we spent some time in San Fran soaking up the sights, riding the trolley (or tram, it is supposedly called but I will still refer to it as the 'trolley'), meeting new friends, exploring amazing rooftops and beginning our American food diet. We spent a few days there, before heading to Yosemite, then Napa Valley, then north through the tall pines and forest roads, to Portland and through to Seattle, stopping when we felt like it and driving through rainy small towns in the PNW.
We then flew to NYC where we spent two nonstop days exploring the city (I find NYC to be WAY too overwhelming but I can appreciate how cool it is if you have never been there, which Si hadn't), eating food, hanging out in Times Square with the NYPD, checking out rooftops, seeing the memorials, and just enjoying the vibe of this crazy city.
After that, we headed down to PA to see my family, and after a few days, realised we had lost Si's passport somewhere between Cali and Philly and would have to make a trip down to DC to get an emergency passport so we could fly home in a few weeks! But there goes our plans to head down to Mexico. We had to change plans quickly.. so we decided to head back to the west coast for just over a week to explore Vegas, Arizona and Utah. We went with just a skeleton of a plan, nothing booked except for the first night's accomodation in Vegas, where we got in at 10PM, slept till 7am, hired a car and made a beeline for the sights in Utah.
